POSITION OVERVIEW

Assemblers are in the production portion of the warehouse. These individuals are responsible for assembling and fabricating prepared components into prehung door units according to prescribed ordered sizes. Two main components of the job are prepping and assembling. Assemblers are typically trained by observing others and gradually moving up in job complexity under instruction and supervision of other assemblers or an immediate supervisor. The work of an assembler is structured and repetitive, with work orders predetermined and similar tasks performed from one day to the next. Attention to detail, accuracy of work, and commitment to safety are crucial.  Over time, assemblers should become proficient in a multitude of warehouse functions, and can move up to skilled assembler, assembler lead, assembler supervisor, and beyond.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 The prepping component of the job includes preparing materials or merchandise for assembly line production by:

    • Reading provided tickets that identify materials needed
    • Gathering prescribed materials from stock using forklifts, hand trucks, and rolling carts
    • Placing materials in designated area for assembly
    • The assembling component of the job includes machining and/or assembling various millwork products such as exterior and interior door units, wooden patios, Dutch doors, casing, and window units by:
      • Reading orders and identifying necessary modifications
      • Operating machinery that modifies the product
      • Preparing the product for shipment by applying casing, sleeves, stickers, etc.
      • Inspects the overall quality of assembled product throughout the assembly process
      • Responsible for the repair and disassembly of returned or defective millwork to prepare it for resale or return to stock
      • Maintains a clear production area free of debris and properly stored and secured work materials, hardware, tools and equipment
      • Responsible for attending all safety training and meetings, being aware of and complying with up-to-date OSHA and company safety policy
      • Performs routine maintenance on all tools used including cleaning, oiling, checking to ensure proper functioning, calibrating machines, checking measuring tool accuracy, and notifying a supervisor of larger repairs or malfunctions
      • Must be willing and able to be cross-trained and to handle all stations along the line

TOOLS USED 'Include but are not limited to: chop saw, table saw, rip saw, hand saw; router, nail gun, screw gun, door machine, various pneumatic tools, and drills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED and one to two years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in following direction carefully
  • Expertise in using hand tools, saws and various power tools
  • Familiarity with door components and assembly techniques.
  • Basic analytical, reasoning, and math abilities.
  • Basic verbal communication skills.
  • Might require forklift certification, depending upon branch requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS '

  • Use of hands to feel, manipulate, or handle; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Frequently standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting of 50-85 pounds and/or pushing 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT '

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and requires the proper use of safety equipment such as protective eyewear, earplugs, hard toe shoes, etc.
