Warehouse Worker/ CDL Class A Truck Drivers receive and coordinate the distribution of materials, tools, equipment, and products. They primarily unload and load shipments, maintain inventory, and a clean, optimally functioning warehouse. They will serve as back- up truck drivers who are responsible for the operation of a tractor and trailer (24 to 53 feet in length) some with capacity upward of 30 tons to transport materials to and from specified destinations in a safe manner. Attention to detail, accuracy of work, and commitment to safety are crucial. This position will also be called upon to deliver products to customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reads customer, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed
  • Receives shipments by processing paperwork, checking contents, and moving materials from receiving areas to storage or to other designated areas using a forklift, hand truck, or rolling cart
  • Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code
  • Compiles worksheets or tickets for customer specifications
  • Assembles customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves, or conveys orders to packing station or shipping department
  • Marks materials with identifying information
  • Records amounts of materials or items received or distributed and maintains inventory records
  • Weighs or counts items for distribution within plant to ensure conformance to company standards
  • Uses computer to enter records and compiles worksheets or tickets from customer specifications
  • Performs daily cycle counts, locates and identifies inventory adjustments and errors.
  • Responsible for attending all safety training and meetings, being aware of and complying with up-to-date OSHA and company safety policy
  • Performs routine maintenance on tools used including cleaning and checking to ensure proper functioning, and notifying a supervisor of larger repairs or malfunctions
  • Drives truck to destination in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Completes pre-, intermittent, and post-trip inspection and checks the straps, brakes, tires, and lights.
  • Compares the product on the truck with the paperwork.
  • Delivers and off-loads material in accordance with route, paperwork, and desires of the customer.
  • Collects payment for goods delivered and for delivery charges.
  • Maintains truck log according to state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains telephone, radio, or electronic contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
  • Responsible for all truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
  • Cleans inside of truck and trailer.
  • Contacts manager and/or necessary vendor to perform emergency roadside repairs such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, tire chains, and spark plugs.
  • Responsible for electronic log to communicate status of orders and complications/errors and returning all completed paperwork to appropriate destination.
  • Stays up-to-date and compliant with all DOT regulations including medical cards and point system.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE- High School diploma or GED and two years' driving experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 2 years of driving experience is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

CUSTOMER INTERACTION SKILLS – Ability to communicate effectively with customers, maintain a profession appearance and demeanor, and solve customer issues in a timely manner.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS- Meets all federal and state driver's license regulations. Must have CDL Class A license.

REASONING ABILITY- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS- While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit and frequently required to walk and talk or hear.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The incumbent is frequently required to stand and reach with arms and hands. While performing duties of this job, the incumbent is frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or lift. May frequently lift and/or move heavy and awkward material. Specific vision requirements to include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to regularly lift, move, hold or push up to 150 lbs. of material.

WORK ENVIRONMENT- The work environment requires the employee to work regularly near moving mechanical parts and to be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee occasionally is exposed to harsh outside weather conditions. This position may require the employee to use safety equipment such as, protective eyewear, earplugs, gloves, safety shoes etc. The work environment includes outdoor labor and involves varied environmental conditions.
